Friends of Goodwill (FoG)

Friends of Goodwill (FoG) is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in Apac district in Northern Uganda (NGO Board Reg No. 12679). We are currently operating in the districts of Apac and Oyam districts in Northern Uganda, but plan to expand to Kole district. Friends of Goodwill (FoG) was formed in May 2010 by Tommy Okada and Peter Acol after they were moved by the sufferings of orphans and other vulnerable children, disadvantaged and marginalized groups such as widows and the elderly in Apac district and other neighbouring areas. Disadvantaged children were sleeping in hunger, having no clothes, not going to school because of lack of scholastic materials, poor health due to lack of guidance and counselling and good care for the total orphans children living with HIV/AIDS. The overall aim of the FoG is to assist in improving the livelihoods of the people of the sub-region, especially orphans and vulnerable children, the elderly and other marginalized groups, after over 20 years of conflict through rebuilding their productive capacities, enhancing their capacities to effectively participate in their communities’ development, advocating for their rights and strengthening their local community organisations to serve them more effectively. Since May 2010, FoG has provided practical and emotional support to orphans, vulnerable children, widows and carers in Apac and neighbouring areas to help them rebuild their lives and play a full part in society. We involve the local community, individuals and local NGOs, to raise awareness and funds in order to provide support and basic needs to orphans, vulnerable children, widows and carers. FoG works with different stakeholders, individuals and local religious denominations to provide basic needs and supports to the identified needy children and vulnerable groups. FoG is governed by a Board of Trustees, and is run on a day to day basis by an Executive Director, with team of Staff and Volunteers. FoG is reliant upon voluntary income, including grants from trusts and foundations, corporate support and donations from individuals, to deliver a range of specialist projects that support orphans, vulnerable children, widows and carers. We have received support from our partners and donors in Denmark, UK, Norway and parts of the world. We have also received donor funding from European Union through Plan International for a Violence Against Children advocacy work.
