On Thursday, 18 June, the World Health Organization and partners will launch the Global Status Report on Preventing Violence Against Children during a webinar from 9 - 10:30 am New York time.
The report is the first of its kind. By analysing the experiences of 1,000 decision-makers from 155 countries, the report explores the progress countries have made toward ending violence against children through the lens of the INSPIRE Seven Strategies, a package of evidence-based interventions created in 2016.
The report includes a snapshot of countries’ progress toward global targets. It also provides the first-ever set of estimates for the numbers and rates of homicide among children under 18 years of age.
The event will be moderated by Dr Etienne Krug, Director of the Department of Social Determinants of Health for the WHO. Speakers include child activists from Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, H.E. Mrs María Juliana Ruiz Sandoval, the First Lady of Colombia, Henrietta Fore, Executive Director of UNICEF, and Dr Howard Taylor, Executive Director of End Violence, among others.
