Afectividad y Sexualidad A.C.

Afectividad y Sexualidad A.C works to prevent violence against children and child sexual abuse from an ecological, systemic approach, aiming our efforts to the educational trinomial: children, parents, and teachers. From this perspective, we consider the violence against children and child sexual abuse as a result of the interaction of multiple factors that connect in diverse ecological levels (individual, family, social).

We are aware of the importance of strengthening social values and generating resilient tutors that can provide protection to the minors, can help us decrease violence and to improve domestic communication. We do this via specific courses, informative conferences and workshops in order to increase the number of social and emotional skills in each beneficiary targeted.

We work with children from 4 to 12 years of age by imparting conferences and workshops so they can have a comprehensive sexuality perspective and can embrace the concepts taught, demonstrating that everybody is valuable and worthy of love and respect. We teach them to value their body and the importance of taking care of it.

We give gender equity conferences and parents courses so they can learn about sexuality and parent skills, allowing them to cope with the sexual development of their children through the frame of human rights, gender equality and positive parenting. Therefore, they can prevent their children from different risks such as maltreatment and sexual abuse.

Teachers are sensitized about the importance of sexual education and the role they have in the prevention of violence, sexual violence in children and school harassment. They acquire skills and learn different strategies so they can identify violence or abuse in their students. Our model is composed by three phases, in each one we have conferences, workshops and courses:

  • Informational Phase: We create awareness in all the population about the importance of prevention mistreatment and sexual abuse in children, in a scholar or family context in order to create protective networks to be able to strengthen a full and healthy development of childhood.
  • Education: We provide emotional competences and life skills to the population so they can identify risk situations and continue with preventive education.
  • Psychoeducational Attention: We develop five skills only in those children who during the diagnosis, gave a low score, so they can improve assertive conducts, identify risk situations and get tools to develop life skills. Our specialists use a mobile office equipped with different games and resources to work with children through games and roleplays.
