The need to protect children online in the European Union

Safe Online

In response to ongoing negotiations about the European Electronic Communications Code, we call upon European Union states, legislators and technology companies to ensure children’s safety in all settings – including the internet.

“Technology companies play an essential role in protecting children’s safety online,” said Dr Howard Taylor, the Executive Director of the End Violence Partnership. “We encourage European lawmakers to quickly reach an agreement to protect children’s privacy while ensuring their safety – and to allow companies to continue using critical detection tools to rescue children from ongoing abuse and prevent the abuse.”

We applaud the technology companies that have stated their commitment to continuing to put children’s safety first, and who will continue to scan their platforms for child abuse content proactively.
